Input please???

A couple of years ago just as I was planning trip for our move from Wyoming to Arizona, I believe I did a post about fly sprays.  However I cannot find it now.

Everyone gave me some great info on what they use, and I was given some recommendations on a couple of brands that you buy on line in gallon sized jugs.  I ended up buying one of those jugs, it worked great, and now I can't recall what they name of it was.  If you have a favorite fly spray that you use, please list it in the comments for me.

CNJ, if you are reading this, I would really really love to have the name of that feed through you had told me about.  Was in called TNT?  Because I cannot find that email either.

Thank you in advance for your input folks.

  1. The only fly spray I ever found that worked was Tri-Tec. It's pricey (about $20 for the bottle and $60 for the gallon) but compared to the cheapies that don't work, if you have fly problems, definitely worth it.

  2. I agree on Tri Tec, it last several days and worth the price. Avon Skin So Soft also works well, but the Tri Tec works on yellow jackets, which are a huge problem here in the autumn cuz they go nuts that time of year, so I always get that. Farm stores have it cheaper than horse gear stores ;)

  4. Dynamite

There's also a link to Show Off Time for their fly spray---> Shoo Fly. I have some if you'd like to try it. Just text me and I can bring it by. I'm right around the corner....

    2. Dynamite is a clicky link. It doesn't show up as such, unless you scroll over it?

Only the 'clicky link' doesn't seem to be working for me. ????? If you go to my blog Well Groomed and look up 2012 in the archives, then August- it should be the first one on the screen.

  5. I use Pyranha spray and pink Swat. I do not like the clear Swat...It runs when it gets warm. Also, last year I bought several of those caps that you put on gallon milk jugs and liquid fly bait and used them outside of the pens to catch flies. Save the lids of the milk jugs and when they get full of flies, you can pull the caps, screw the top back on and throw the whole thing away.

  6. I use Adams fly spray and like it as well as any I've tried. I used to just read the active ingredients and buy the one with the highest level of pimethrin or pymethrins in it...probably spelled those wrong. :) But the biggest improvement we've had in fly control is several years ago we started using Fly Predators, the little bugs that eat fly larvae. They're inexpensive, totally safe, organic and cost about the same as a single bottle of fly spray. And we use the fly bait like BEC does too. Anything to kill the little buggars!!

  7. I use Endure, it lasts several days, even thru light rains. It also deters midges, which my mare is allergic too.

  8. I use UltraShield EX. I also mix up equal parts of water, Skin-so-Soft, and vinegar. I had very good luck in the years I was giving my horse SmartBugOff supplement. I felt like I needed a lot less spray during those years.

  9. I've found Endure and Tri-Tec to work the best. Broncos is completely useless, unless you want to attract wasps. Centaura also works well, and repels mosquitoes too, which most don't. You can spray Centaura on yourself too. This year I am trying a natural fly spray called Flicks, because it was recommended to me by an old horseman I respect. It smells good and works well, but doesn't repel mosquitoes.
