My Turn to have a Contest!!!

I entered a blogger contest recently at Rebecca's Blog, and I won a prize, which is amazing because I never win anything, ever.
I won a lovely custom made decal, which I will share with you all when I have it mounted on my pick up.

But in light of that, and also thanks to Marissa who has come up with a great idea for "passing it on", I have my own little contest today.  I like that Marissa wants to help spread good will and smiles through out the world. I like to do that as well.  So what is the best way to do that?  I think it varies for each one of us. For me it is passing on to someone else, something which has made me smile.

Oh sure I'd love to be able to give away something really cool, like a piece of tack, or something I made all by myself, but lets face it, I'm not rich enough to give away tack, and I'm not very creative either.

What I do have though, are books.  I'm not quite prepared to let go of my very collectible books, but I do have two books which I have purchased recently, that absolutely warmed my heart to the core.  Since I have read them now,  it is time for them to move on to new homes, and new hearts.

The books I would like to pass on are:

Horsepower is by Annette Israel, and is a wonderful true story of her love affair with a particular draft horse and how he changed not only her life, but the lives of many.  This is a fantastic book, one that every horse lover should read.  I loved it!  It is not a very long book, but a great quick read. I think I read the whole thing  in two evenings.  When I finished it, the first word out of my mouth was "wow".

Horses of the Storm is by Ky Evan Mortensen and is the amazing true story of how they initiated and facilitated the amazing rescue of hundreds of horses (not to mention many other animals) in the aftermath of both Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita.  Just for the record, I got this book in the mail yesterday at 5 pm, and finished it by 8 pm. I literally could not put it down.  This book also includes a great Emergency Preparedness Guide, which really makes you think about what you would do in a crisis. It helps you assess whether or not you are prepared for one, and also gives some great ideas on how to get prepared.

So here is how it will go.
Anyone interested in receiving this two book set for free, just leave a comment and I will put your name in a hat.  You have until Sunday the 10th at 6 pm to enter.   I will only be drawing one name, and I will send the winner the books, via UPS, I will pay the shipping.  I will announce the winner Sunday evening, and then that person can email me their shipping address.  If you prefer to use a post office box, just say so and I will use the USPS instead.

Now there is one small catch.  I would really like to see these books continue on to hearts around the world.  So if you win, after you have read them both, I would ask that you sign your name,(or initials)  and location (city and state only) inside the book, and then have your own drawing for the next recipient.  You can also add a few words on what you thought of the books if you like.  I will be the first one to sign the books.  The reason I ask for the signature and location, is because I think it would be cool  for people to know how far the book set has traveled.

So there it is folks, my own little contest. Its not the greatest give away, but if you like to read, and love horses, then you will love these books.

    1. I forgot to add my disclaimer:

"Only residents of planet earth are eligible to win. Relatives, family members and pets of HERDLIFE may not enter. If you have read the books already you may still enter if you wish to read them again. If you win and choose not to pass the books on, there is nothing I can do about it, but the book gods will frown upon you always. There are no guarantees that you will love the books as much as I did, but if you aren't touched by these stories you should probably check to see if you still have pulse."

Hey, I've gotten a few of those weird comments from who-who too. How do you delete them?
